It's not easy to let go of all the everyday thoughts in your head, cos we are so consumed by little everyday things that we end up thinking about same issues over and over. It's good to try to let go of all of this for at least 15-30 min a day if possible. It's certainly not easy at the beginning to quiet your mind.
